More than an art show, this interactive, multi-media solo exhibition is a ‘COME AS YOU ARE’ celebration of our “imperfectly” beautiful selves walking through and overcoming life’s challenges. honoring the resiliency of the human spirit and inner beauty, this artist invites us to redefine and transform existing definitions of BEAUTY in the 21st Century.
We are greater than the sum of our parts.
Elaine Weiner-Reed's Montpelier Library Gallery solo show "Beautiful Reflections” features a curated subset of abstract expressionist paintings and figurative sculptures in her Masks and Mirrors Collection. Art comes to life in this non-traditional art exhibit incorporating art with spoken or written reflections, and mirrors. Leveraging her artwork as a gateway to self-acceptance and relationship-building, Weiner-Reed welcomes dialogue.
Weiner-Reed invites guests to explore their own identity through its many facets, phases, and tribulations. From first glimpses in a mirror, we question who we are. We search for purpose, understanding, acceptance, and belonging. We consider how we are the same or different from others. Throughout our lives, we grow and change, concealing or revealing parts of ourselves depending on trust levels gained from or based on experience, personal defense mechanisms, and intuition. “Who am I?” we continually ask ourselves throughout our lives, evolving and reinventing ourselves along the way.
Honoring the Journey: A storyteller herself, this artist wants to hear your stories, songs, poems, memories, or reflections inspired by the artwork and companion writings in her Reflections Dropbox, located in the Gallery. QR Codes will be included in the artwork labels, allowing guests to LISTEN TO audio reflections and poetry.
FREE PUBLIC EVENTS
OPENING RECEPTION & GALLERY TALK: On Saturday 4 June 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, MAC and Elaine Weiner-Reed invite the public to explore and discuss her artwork and discover how it connects to their lives and histories. Guests will be treated to a Gallery Talk, live and recorded poetry readings and original music. All ages welcome!
SPECIAL EKPHRASTIC POETRY EVENT: On Friday, 10 June 2022 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM following an abbreviated Gallery Talk, Elaine will be joined by professional writers and authors from EC Poetry and Prose and PG County, hosted by Spoken Word Artist and Author, Patti Ross. Join Elaine in listening to the original poetry come alive in the presence of the artwork that inspired it. A cathartic evening awaits, as does the possibility of a surprise local celebrity guest appearance!
